Story coaching for authors
Story coaching for authors
If something is holding you back from submitting your manuscript, if you’ve been getting silence after submitting, if your story has been rejected and you don’t know why, or if you simply need a brainstorming session with an industry insider PLUS a follow-up session to check your progress, then this Story Coaching double-session is exactly what you need.
Our first session is a thorough examination of everything in your story, beginning with your fundamental ‘why’ of writing it, and then streamlining theme, plot and character.
Our second session is where we refine and retune your reworked manuscript, checking for repetition, filler-words, cliches and dialogue, and checking your theme and structure are strong.
Further single-session follow-ups are available if you feel you need them.

SANDY GRANT, Chief Executive HARDIE GRANT
Margrete Lamond is one the most distinguished publishers of picture books in Australia. Through her study, her roles leading quality imprints, the prizes her authors and illustrators have won, her advocacy for the craft and her extraordinary knowledge of children’s literature, she has established an earned reputation as one of the giants in Australian children’s books.
ROD HARE, Director HENI Media Group (former joint owner Little Hare Books)
Margrete is one of the most talented children’s book publishers I have ever worked with. As publisher at Little Hare Books she edited and art directed many award winning books with some of the very best authors and illustrators in Australia. What she doesn’t know about picture books isn’t worth learning.
EDWINA WYATT, award-winning children’s author
Those fortunate enough to work with Margrete Lamond are quick to discover her passion, wisdom, wit and intelligence. She is a brilliant communicator with a keen eye for detail, a wonderful sense of humour, and a deep understanding of story. Margrete is astute, honest and direct when providing editorial feedback, but never lacking in warmth or sensitivity. Her rare intersection of skills and talents enables her to bring a depth of knowledge and experience that will prove invaluable to her clients.
PARTICK GUEST, award-winning & best-selling children’s author
When I sent my first story to Margrete, I didn't even know what a manuscript was! I was an untried, untrained storyteller with no idea of what I was getting myself into. Margrete believed in me. She nurtured me; gently, honestly and purposefully. She pointed out my blind spots and brought the absolute best out of me. There is no greater mentor in the business because, for Margrete, it's not a business. The art always comes first. Six books and several more commissions later, I'm proud to call her my friend.
LIBBY HATHORN, multiple-award-winning author
I am indeed a lucky author to have worked with Margrete Lamond as my publisher with a number of my children’s picture book texts. Not only does Margret have impeccable taste in choosing the ‘right’ illustrator to companion one’s manuscript, but takes intelligent care of the text as well. In my opinion, Margrete is a stand-out publisher with modern knowledge and a discerning perception of children’s literature both here and world-wide.
